Amid rising tensions in Europe and the Middle East, the Turkish government has taken steps to strengthen military logistics by developing a rail wagon that can carry both containers and armored vehicles. The project, officially named the Uais Type Military Vehicle Transport Wagon Project, has been assigned to Turasas (Turkish Railway Vehicles Industry). The company has already produced the first prototype and plans to deliver the initial units by 2025.
Renderings of the design showcase an Altay tank positioned in a specially designed pocket between the wagon's bogies, while another image shows two 20-foot containers loaded onto the wagon. Turasas has confirmed that the wagon can also transport other military vehicles, including the M60T, Korkut, Samur, and Hedgehog, as well as 40- and 45-foot containers. It is expected that the new wagon will be able to carry 78 of the 104 military vehicles currently in the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory.
The project adheres to Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI) standards, ensuring international compatibility. This means the wagon can be used in NATO operations abroad. The first prototype is currently undergoing static testing, and once the braking system is installed, dynamic testing will begin according to international standards, making the wagon suitable for export.
