The year 2025 will mark significant changes in container shipping alliances. The 2M alliance between Maersk and MSC will dissolve, while The Alliance will lose Hapag-Lloyd, which has formed a new alliance with Maersk called Gemini Cooperation. Hapag-Lloyd's departure from The Alliance has paved the way for a new partnership, Premier Alliance, which brings together the three companies that previously teamed up with Hapag-Lloyd in The Alliance: Ocean Network Express, Hyundai Merchant Marine, and Yang Ming Marine Transportation, all of which are based in Asia.
Premier Alliance will officially begin operations in February 2025 and will last for five years, offering services on routes between Asia and Europe, as well as Asia and the Americas. The combined fleet will consist of 321 container ships, with a total capacity of 4.5 million TEUs. This capacity will be further enhanced through a slot-sharing agreement between Premier Alliance and MSC, covering nine services between Asia and Europe.
