In September 2024, a new rail terminal for containers opened in Ukraine, marking the completion of the first phase. The terminal is located in Vinnytsia, a city in the heart of the country along the banks of the Buh River, which is also home to the headquarters of the Ukrainian Air Force. The project was developed by Lemtrans Group, with an investment equivalent to €13.6 million. In this initial phase, the terminal consists of railway tracks, a container yard with a capacity of 2,000 TEU, and a covered warehouse of 3,500 square meters, offering an annual handling capacity of 30,000 TEU.
The first train arrived at the Vinnytsia Container Terminal in the first week of September 2024, thanks to a collaboration with UZ Cargo Poland and JSC UZ. The inaugural shipment exceeded 60 TEU, establishing a regular connection to the Polish port of Gdansk. In addition to this link, goods will be regularly shipped to terminals in the greater Odessa area, with future rail routes planned to reach destinations in Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, and the Netherlands.
Lemtrans is one of Ukraine's leading rail operators, managing a fleet of over 15,000 wagons that transport 52 million tons annually. The company is owned by SCM Holdings and has significant assets in Ukraine, including a leased warehouse in Volnovakha, in the Donetsk region (which has suffered severe war damage and is now under Russian control), and another in Kamianske, in the Dnipropetrovsk region. SCM Holdings, headquartered in Cyprus, belongs to Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov and controls companies in various sectors, including mining, energy, banking, telecommunications, and agriculture.
