January 2024 will not be a smooth month for road crossings in the Western Alps, due to closures and traffic restrictions in both the Frejus and Mont Blanc tunnels. As for the Frejus tunnel, traffic will be banned in both directions for a consecutive 56 hours, starting from 10:00 PM on Friday, January 26th, until 6:00 AM on Monday, January 29th, 2024, due to extraordinary maintenance works.
In the Mont Blanc tunnel, alternating one-way traffic is scheduled on several nights during the third and fourth weeks of January, from 10:30 PM to 6:00 AM. The affected dates are January 16th, 17th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Industrial vehicles will be halted in the regulatory areas of Aosta and Passy Le Fayet. The highway company warns of “possible inconveniences in the hour preceding the total closure to traffic and in the hour following the reopening of the tunnel, due to the transit of any vehicles under escort”.
