Kicking off 2024, Volvo Trucks presents the Aero generation, a cutting-edge iteration of the FH heavy-duty road vehicle series. The manufacturer asserts this new line could reduce fuel consumption by as much as five percent. These models are set to gradually enter the market over the course of 2024-2025 in four variants: the diesel-powered FH Aero, the fully electric FH Aero Electric, the natural gas-fueled FH Aero Gas-Powered, and the powerhouse FH16 Aero, boasting up to 780 hp.
Innovation is immediately apparent with the 24-centimeter longer cabin compared to the traditional Volvo FH. This move capitalizes on new European regulations allowing extended cabins for enhanced driver safety and comfort. This change also improves aerodynamic penetration, reducing fuel consumption and increasing vehicle stability in strong winds.
Another notable innovation is the replacement of mirrors with rear-view cameras, known as the Camera Monitor System. This system serves a dual purpose: enhancing aerodynamics and providing greater visibility for the driver, especially in low visibility or rainy conditions. When towing, the camera system features an automatic panoramic function that tracks the trailer during turns.
Beneath the cabin, Volvo has introduced several innovations, such as updated brakes with a non-parasitic disc brake system, an upgraded infotainment system customizable to include truck-specific navigation maps, and an improved audio system. There is also a microwave in the cabin.
