On January 30, 2024, Torello Group, specializing in trucking and logistics, and the GTS Group, known for railway and intermodal transportation, announced their partnership for the national and international combined road-rail transport of temperature-controlled food products. As part of the cooperation, Torello will operate through its subsidiary, DIF Network. A direct result of this agreement is the increase from three to six weekly train services between Verona and Bari. DIF will manage the collection and distribution of the food products transported by GTS trains and will also support the combined road-rail international transports of the railway company.
Both companies will leverage their resources, comprising 38 locomotives, over 3,000 containers and 650 railcars for rail transport, a fleet of 3,900 industrial vehicles and thirty locations in Italy, France, Slovakia, Romania, and Serbia for road transport, in addition to over 300,000 square meters for storage, including approximately 15,000 dedicated to temperature-controlled goods. “Thanks to Torello, we can now integrate the service of temperature-controlled food transport and offer our clients enhanced support,” stated Alessio Muciaccia, CEO of GTS.
Umberto Torello, the COO of the namesake company, remarked, “The food chain is a strategic sector for Italy, with an annual turnover of about 600 billion euros, accounting for 31% of the national GDP. These figures inspire us to continually improve. Our DIF Network has long been a prominent player in the supply chain, not just in Italy but internationally. Therefore, the agreement with GTS is strategic, as integration with rail will ensure even more sustainable transport, traceability, and proper temperature management.”
