The Austrian Ministry of Mobility has implemented a ban on the movement of commercial vehicles on the A10 Tauern motorway on Fridays and Saturdays, until March 30, 2024. The Austrian government has extended the circulation ban to commercial vehicles weighing over 7.5 tons on the Tauern axis, connecting Villach with Salzburg.
Specifically, the ban affects the A10 motorway and prohibits truck traffic on Fridays (from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM) and Saturdays in the southbound direction, from the Salzburg interchange (A10 junction from the A1 motorway) to the Pongau interchange, if the destination is Slovenia or Italy, and in the northbound direction between the Rennweg and Golling interchanges, if the destination is Germany or the Czech Republic.
On Saturdays, traffic is banned from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the southbound direction, on these sections. Additionally, on Saturdays, a traffic ban comes into effect on the entire Austrian road network from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Sunday. The new Tauern restrictions will remain in effect until March 30, 2024.
The Saturday ban includes exceptions for the return of drivers of empty vehicles until 10:00 AM, for the exclusive transport of certain perishables (fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh milk and dairy products, fresh meat and meat-based products, fresh fish and seafood products, live fish, eggs, mushrooms, bakery and confectionery products, potted or cut aromatic herbs, and ready-to-eat aromatic herbs), for goods transportation serving civil aviation airports, and for combined rail-road transports.
