The Msc-controlled ferry operator Gnv has welcomed two sister ro-pax vessels named Sirio and Auriga. Following maintenance, fitting out, and livery updating activities, these ships will commence operations on Italian routes: starting from March 20, 2024, Sirio will sail between Genoa and Palermo, while Auriga will begin its journey between Genoa and Porto Torres from March 28. The addition of these vessels increases Gnv's fleet to twenty-eight units, serving on thirty-one lines linking seven countries.
Each of the ro-pax vessels measures 214 meters in length, with a gross tonnage of 39,798 tons, and garages capable of accommodating 2,281 linear meters for Sirio and 1,934 linear meters for Auriga. They can host 2,900 passengers in 319 cabins, featuring a relaxation area, two bars, a dining hall, an entertainment space for children, a shop, and elevators on every deck. Constructed in 2003 by Fincantieri at Castellamare di Stabia, they were previously part of the Moby Group fleet.
Matteo Catani, CEO of Gnv, stated, "The addition of these two new units is a crucial element in enhancing our capacity in terms of passenger numbers and transportable linear meters. It also represents a remarkable opportunity to strengthen our presence in the Mediterranean, particularly towards Sicily and Sardinia, on two of our company's historic routes. This confirms our commitment to reinforcing what has always been a key market for Gnv's development."
