On Monday, April 8, 2024, major maintenance operations will resume in the Mont Blanc Tunnel to refurbish the road deck in the central section of the gallery over a stretch of 240 meters. This will result in the closure to traffic for thirty-two weeknights (excluding weekends, bridge days, or public holidays in Italy and France) from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The works will conclude on Tuesday, June 18, with an exceptionally longer closure of 30 hours on Thursday, June 20.
The refurbishment involves replacing the deck elements that support the roadway, beneath which are the ventilation ducts. The technical solution adopted allows for the work to be carried out primarily at night, thus enabling traffic to flow during daylight hours. With this operation, the road deck of the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely refurbished over a total length of about 1,700 meters in the central area of the infrastructure. This phase of the project represents an investment of six million euros, funded 50% by each of the two concessionary companies, Sitmb and its French counterpart Atmb.
