On April 4, 2024, Helrom announced that it has been tasked with providing intermodal service to the German automotive manufacturer, in collaboration with the Duvenbeck Group and Bayernhafen. The service is executed by a block train that completes a round trip of one thousand kilometers on the German-Hungarian route from Regensburg to Lébény and back within 24 hours, including loading and unloading operations. Each train comprises eighteen wagons, which load 36 semi-trailers, thus removing 72 trucks from the roads daily, reducing road transport by approximately 185,000 kilometers weekly.
This intermodal connection is a core component of Audi's sustainability strategy, known as Mission:Zero, aiming to cut up to 11,500 tons of CO2 emissions annually on this route. The globally patented technology of the Helrom trailer wagon enables loading all types of semi-trailers, including those not craneable, onto a train without the need for special terminals and cranes. "By eliminating the need for special terminals for loading semi-trailers, we integrate more intelligently into supply chains without detours. We are also faster and more reliable than previous intermodal transport," explains Roman Noack, CEO of Helrom.
