Hapag-Lloyd is finalizing the implementation of real-time tracking technology for ambient temperature containers across its entire transportation network. This technology - dubbed Live Position - enables complete visibility for clients from departure to arrival, boasting that it is the world’s first large-scale deployment using Internet of Things technology. Live Position has already been installed on approximately two-thirds of Hapag-Lloyd's container fleet, with plans to complete the rollout by the summer of 2024.
"This technology not only enhances the transparency of logistic operations but also allows for more efficient management of our container park," explains Maximilian Rothkopf, COO of the German company. Henrik Schilling, Head of Global Business Development, adds, “We are working on integrating tracking data into our clients’ operational systems through APIs and anticipate introducing a feature for predicting estimated time of arrival (ETA) soon."
