Contship Italia Group has published the tender for the expansion works of the Molo Ravano at La Spezia's container terminal. The deadline for submitting bids is September 3, with the winner to be announced in December. The construction program is divided into two lots, and this tender pertains to the first one. Matthieu Gasselin, CEO of Contship Italia Group, explains, "We are adding an important piece to our strategic development plans through which Lsct aims to become a reference point in global trade dynamics by capturing new traffic shares."
Gasselin adds, "We are eagerly awaiting the certificate of disposal of explosive ordnance, which represents another crucial step towards realizing our ambitious project. In just over a year, together with the entire Contship team, we have achieved numerous important goals, including increasing volumes, internalizing the carousel service, and launching the tender for the construction of the new Ravano terminal."
The expansion of Molo Ravano aims to increase the capacity of the La Spezia Container Terminal from the current 1.4 million TEUs to two million TEUs while simultaneously enhancing rail transport. Contship aims to achieve fifty percent of container handling by train. The tender includes the construction of a 520-meter operational quay for docking container ships up to 22,000 TEUs and an operational yard of approximately twelve hectares. The duration of the works will be 700 natural days.
To build the new quay, the basin of Marina del Canaletto will be filled using dredged port debris, dehydrated and mixed with cement. The new quay will be constructed through the structural adaptation of the Fornelli East pier and the Calata Ravano to new design requirements, including the presence of ship-to-shore cranes that can handle 25 rows of containers. Then, a 60-meter-wide yard behind the operational quay will be set up, including electrical systems, stormwater systems, fire prevention, and cold ironing. The total budget allocation is 90 million euros.
