Renault Trucks has entered a new phase of its research and development program dedicated to electric vehicles for urban logistics. The prototype, Oxygen, which has already undergone initial testing in Lyon and Paris, will now be tested in operational conditions with a new refrigerated version in Amsterdam. This is made possible through a partnership with the supermarket chain Jumbo and the transportation company Svz.
The experimental vehicle, Oxygen, is an electric truck designed to meet the needs of urban logistics, with a capacity of 26 tons and a 6x2 configuration. The current version has been developed in collaboration with Renault Trucks' Dutch subsidiary and will undergo a new testing cycle starting in October 2024 in Amsterdam, a city known for its commitment to sustainable mobility and emission reduction.
Jumbo, the second-largest retailer in the Netherlands with over 700 stores, and Svz, a company that distributes fresh products to Jumbo's store network, share a common goal: to reduce environmental impact and improve urban logistics. The new electric truck will enable refrigerated deliveries to Jumbo stores in the center of Amsterdam without noise or pollution, enhancing safety for pedestrians and vulnerable road users.
The Renault Trucks Oxygen features a low-floor cabin for improved visibility and safety, sliding doors for easy access, and an insulated body. It is 10 meters long with a wheelbase of 4,600 millimeters. Its electric motor is powered by three 94 kWh batteries, providing a range of 150 kilometers, which Jumbo and Svz consider suitable for daily delivery operations.
