The organizers of IAA Transportation in Hannover have unveiled the 2024 edition, which will feature 1,650 exhibitors, a 20% increase compared to the previous edition, with 73% coming from abroad, representing 41 countries. The greater number of exhibitors has led to the opening of more halls than in the previous edition. This year's event, showcasing over 145 world premieres and exhibition debuts, is centered around the theme "People and Goods on the Move."
During an online press conference, Hildegard Müller, President of the VDA (the German Association of Automotive Manufacturers that organizes the event), emphasized the crucial role of the commercial vehicle industry in achieving global sustainability goals. She also highlighted key challenges, such as infrastructure limitations, labor shortages, rising energy costs, and geopolitical uncertainties.
IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover is placing a strong focus on technological innovations, particularly on battery-electric propulsion systems and hydrogen technologies. Among the most anticipated innovations is the Megawatt Charging System, which enables efficient charging for heavy commercial vehicles. These innovations are backed by concrete collaborations with leading companies in the sector. In addition to industrial vehicle manufacturers and custom body makers, the event will also feature commercial vehicle producers, fuel cell and cargo bike manufacturers, along with suppliers of hydrogen, software, and technologies.
A major draw for visitors to IAA Transportation is the opportunity to test vehicles on a dedicated track. Attendees will be able to drive vehicles from over twenty manufacturers in realistic scenarios, putting electric and hydrogen propulsion technologies to the test. Hildegard Müller emphasized the importance of these trials, stating: "Innovations are only effective when embraced by society. The IAA road tests offer a unique global opportunity to experience electric mobility in the commercial vehicle sector. We believe that the experiences and emotions these tests evoke are key factors in the acceptance of new propulsion solutions by end users."
One of this year's main attractions is the introduction of the IAA Driver and Family Weekend, scheduled for September 21 and 22. Throughout this weekend, various activities will be organized for drivers and their families, including the official paddock for the FIA truck racing series, a truck driving school, and live performances. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a unique experience aboard the Solar Ferris Wheel, which will provide an exclusive view of the IAA Transportation.
Finally, IAA Transportation 2024 will host a conference bringing together industry experts to discuss the most pressing issues concerning the future of transportation. Key participants will include prominent figures such as Martin Daum (CEO of Daimler Truck Holding), Arnd Franz (CEO of Mahle), and leading politicians like Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economy and Climate, and Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Transport.
