The airline announced in September 2024 the introduction of this new service, which will connect Milan Malpensa to Philadelphia starting May 23, 2025. The daily flight, operated with a Boeing 787, will provide access to American Airlines' extensive network from Philadelphia, offering convenient connections to numerous destinations across the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. This new route marks the return of a service previously operated by US Airways and complements the existing direct flight to New York, enhancing travel options between Milan and the United States.
This year, American Airlines has expanded its network with new routes from Barcelona to Dallas, Copenhagen and Nice to Philadelphia, and Venice to Chicago (from April to October). The airline has also increased its daily flights from Shanghai to Dallas and launched a new service from Tokyo Haneda to New York JFK. In addition to passenger services, American Airlines operates a cargo division, American Airlines Cargo, which serves the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In August 2024, the airline expanded its partnership with CargoAi across Europe.
