The latest addition includes 60 24-foot containers and 50 cassettes (translifter system), boosting Grendi's intermodal fleet to over 1,100 containers and 440 cassettes, while also promoting the Italian manufacturing supply chain. The units are entirely manufactured in Italy, at Sicom’s facilities in Cherasco, Cuneo province.
With this order, Grendi is also reducing its carbon footprint, as both the containers and cassettes are produced using green steel and renewable energy sources, which cover over 50% of the production needs, thanks to photovoltaic systems. "We've been working with Sicom for many years and are well aware of the challenges in maintaining a competitive edge in this sector. However, the quality of materials and manufacturing remains a critical factor for us in ensuring the long-term durability of the units," said Antonio Musso, CEO of Grendi Trasporti Marittimi.
Musso also emphasized how the choice of specific containers provides added value to clients in terms of cargo capacity, allowing more pallets to be transported compared to standard versions: "This enables us to maximize logistical efficiency and meet our customers' needs, offering a solution that is not only competitive but also tailored to their requirements."
