Strategic collaboration between Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo
Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo, the cargo arm of the Malaysia Aviation Group, have announced a new strategic collaboration. Effective from October 1, 2024, the agreement aims to enhance global cargo connectivity and operational efficiency. Under this partnership, two weekly flights connect Doha to Kuala Lumpur, increasing weekly cargo capacity by over 200 tons. MASkargo, using Airbus A330 aircraft, supports the route to Sydney and Melbourne, providing 75 tons of weekly capacity. The agreement allows Qatar Airways access to the Southeast Asian market, while MASkargo can reach new destinations in Europe and Africa.
Logistics agreement between LH Cargo and Shenzhen
Lufthansa Cargo's subsidiary, time:matters, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Shenzhen Airport Group to boost collaboration in logistics management services. Shenzhen Airport, located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, is a key hub for e-commerce and is experiencing strong growth in cross-border air transport. Since July 2024, Lufthansa Cargo has operated a bi-weekly connection between Shenzhen and Frankfurt to meet the rising demand in the e-commerce segment towards Europe. The new agreement aims to solidify a forward-looking relationship to ensure high-performance logistics services.
India plans 23 new rail container terminals
India has announced the construction of 23 new rail terminals dedicated to container traffic along the North-South Corridor. These terminals will be exclusively for container transport, excluding bulk cargo. Of the new terminals, four will be in Tamil Nadu, five in Maharashtra, three in Rajasthan, and two each in Delhi and Haryana. Others will be spread across West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Container traffic in India grew to 85.58 million tons in 2023/24, over six million more than the previous year. For 2024-25, the target is to reach 91 million tons.
Gema secures €39 million rail contract
Reway Group has announced that its subsidiary Gema has won a new contract worth approximately €39 million for infrastructure enhancement and extraordinary maintenance of a bridge on the Milan-Genoa railway line, located in Pavia. The works, awarded by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, will begin in March 2025 and last two years, involving around thirty workers for deck reconstruction and interventions on the steel structure of the bridge. This new contract strengthens Reway's position in the railway sector, contributing to its expansion in Northern Italy and bringing the order backlog to €1.075 billion.
