The National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which is celebrated annually, was held from September 15 to 21, 2024. This event pays tribute to the more than 3.5 million American truck drivers, highlighting the daily sacrifices they make. First launched by the American Trucking Association in 1998, the initiative has grown in popularity over the years and has been embraced by several European countries, which have seen increasing participation from companies and organizations in the transport sector.
One standout campaign during this special week was led by CH Robinson, aimed at raising awareness about the vital role professional drivers play in the supply chain. Active in both the US and across various European countries such as Spain, France, Germany, and Poland, the group's initiative was announced on its LinkedIn and Facebook channels. Through the hashtag #ThankATruckDriver, customers were reminded of the importance of thanking the drivers who transport their goods. The campaign message was clear: without the work of these drivers, store and supermarket shelves would be empty.
In Poland, CH Robinson representatives spent two days on the road with one of the company's drivers, creating a video of over three minutes that provides insight into life aboard an industrial vehicle. The video highlights that while the profession offers advantages, such as the chance to meet new people and cultures or see new places, it also comes with significant challenges, particularly the separation from family.
The group's initiative also included the installation of billboards across Europe praising the work of truck drivers, which will remain on display until the end of September. Additionally, CH Robinson distributed over 1,500 gift packages to its drivers, containing useful items for their profession, such as winter and summer hats, water bottles, and work gloves. Meanwhile, the company's American branch donated $50,000 to the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, which provides financial assistance and free healthcare programs for drivers. The campaign was accompanied by a letter of appreciation signed by CH Robinson.
