A new Italian rail freight company has been established in Rome, named Trasporti Ferroviari Italiani Srl (TFI). This venture represents an evolution from the Bari-based Ferrotramviaria, inheriting its workforce, rolling stock, and freight traffic. Established as a dedicated entity for rail freight transport, TFI emerges from the divestiture of the freight transport division of Ferrotramviaria, a company that began this venture in 2007, obtaining a Safety Certificate and acquiring four Alstom Traxx F140 DC E.483 locomotives in 2012. Fully owned by Ferrotramviaria, TFI takes over 52 employees and the rolling stock involved in freight transport, along with existing client contracts
TFI is set to continue the current freight services of Ferrotramviaria, with aspirations for expansion. In a statement, Trasporti Ferroviari Italiani articulates its readiness "to further grow by tackling the challenges of the sector and offering its clients the full breadth of its experience and innovation." The aim of this new company is "to consolidate its position in the industry, contributing to the sustainable development of infrastructure and the economy in both the Italian and European landscapes."
