The electric road tractor, Mercedes eActros 600, will hit the Italian roads following its debut in October 2023. This new battery-powered model is designed for medium to long-range missions, thanks to its range that can reach up to 500 kilometers. In Italy, the Arcese Group announced the order of a unit on February 7, 2024, notable for its red livery. Deliveries of this truck in Europe will start in January 2025.
The eActros 600 features a fully electric powertrain, called eAxle, which integrates two electric motors and a four-speed transmission into the axle. The vehicle is powered by three battery packs, each with 207/200 kWh of installed/usable power, offering a total capacity of 621 kWh/600 kWh. Mercedes claims this allows the vehicle to travel up to 500 kilometers without intermediate charging. The newly designed batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology, known for their long lifespan and greater usable energy. The manufacturer states that these batteries have a life expectancy of 1.2 million kilometers and are designed to be charged at the upcoming megawatt charger stations with a power of about one megawatt, from 20% to 80% in less than thirty minutes.
The eActros600 has a dedicated cabin, named ProCabin, offering high aerodynamic penetration. For safety, this model features various integrated equipment in the new electronic platform that combines radar and camera data to provide a wider view of the front and side areas of the vehicle. The expanded visual angle significantly enhances the efficiency of the latest generation driving assistance systems aimed at safety, including Active Brake Assist 6, Frontguard Assist, Active Sideguard Assist 2, and Active Drive Assist 3.
"With the arrival of the new electric Mercedes vehicles, we further enhance our green production capacity, which already includes vehicles powered by Bio-LNG, HVO, short-sea and rail intermodal," explains Emanuele Arcese, Global VP Road Freight FTL of the Arcese Group. "This allows us to carry out our journeys with the best production combination in terms of environmental sustainability. We are proud to be protagonists in this transformation and to invest in sustainable solutions to help redefine the industry standards."
