The Tyrolean regional government has announced the calendar for the days between April and December when it will enforce its truck dosage system for heavy goods vehicles travelling south from Germany through the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border crossing on the A12 Inntal motorway, the key transit route of the Brenner corridor. The dosage system, which comes into effect from 5:00 am on the specified days, limits the passage to a maximum of 300 heavy vehicles per hour. This regulation forms part of Tyrol’s restrictive policies aimed at curbing heavy traffic, an issue that has long been a source of tension between Austria, Germany, and Italy.
The designated dosage days for 2025 are as follows: Monday, 14 April; Wednesday, 23 April; Thursday, 24 April; and Monday, 28 April. Further restrictions will be applied on Friday, 30 May; Tuesday, 3 June; Wednesday, 4 June; Thursday, 5 June; Tuesday, 10 June; Wednesday, 11 June; Thursday, 12 June; Monday, 16 June; Tuesday, 17 June; and Friday, 20 June. Additional restrictions will occur on Monday, 7 July; Monday, 14 July; Monday, 21 July; and Monday, 28 July. The dosage measures will also be in place on Monday, 1 September; Monday, 8 September; Monday, 15 September; Monday, 22 September; and Monday, 29 September. Further dates include Monday, 6 October; Wednesday, 5 November; Wednesday, 12 November; Wednesday, 19 November; and Wednesday, 26 November, with the final restriction day scheduled for Tuesday, 9 December.
Austrian authorities had previously announced that truck dosage would also be applied on Monday, 10 March. This measure is in addition to traffic restrictions in place on the Lueg Bridge due to reconstruction works. Austria justifies this regulation as necessary to protect air quality and road safety while also reducing congestion along major Alpine transit routes. However, the dosage system continues to face strong criticism from haulage associations, logistics companies, and institutional representatives from Italy and Germany, who view the restrictions as a barrier to the free movement of goods within the European Union.
