Fassi collaborates with SSAB for green steel
SSAB and Fassi have signed an agreement for the supply of steel produced with near-zero fossil carbon emissions. The collaboration includes the use of SSAB fossil-free and SSAB zero for the Italian manufacturer’s hydraulic cranes, enabling a drastic reduction in CO2 footprint. "Innovation means looking towards the future. And there is no future without sustainability," says Giovanni Fassi, the company’s CEO. SSAB, which produced the first fossil-free steel in 2021, employs Hybrit technology with hydrogen and clean energy, while Fassi, a pioneer in the use of advanced steels, reaffirms its commitment to sustainable innovation.
Iemoli acquires a Scania electric truck
Iemoli Trasporti is partnering with Scania to reduce environmental impact and enhance logistical efficiency. The company, based in Como, is adding the Scania 45 R electric truck to its fleet, which will be used for deliveries to Basel on behalf of a leading Swiss design furniture brand. This initiative is part of a decarbonisation strategy already in place with HVO-powered vehicles. The new Turate facility is self-sufficient thanks to 550 kW solar panels and features the first charging bay for electric trucks.
Hungarian terminal in Trieste by 2028
The new multi-purpose terminal at the port of Trieste, developed by the Hungarian company Adria Port and located in the former Aquila refinery area, is set to become operational in 2028. The project, a joint effort between Italy and Hungary, aims to link Mediterranean logistics capacity with Hungarian exports. The terminal, spanning 32 hectares in Muggia and requiring an estimated investment of 200 million euros, represents both a logistical and environmental challenge.
Gruber Logistics completes the integration of Züst & Bachmeier
At the beginning of 2025, Gruber Logistics finalised the integration of Züst & Bachmeier Project into its group. The project cargo specialist now operates under the name Gruber Logistics Project, completing a process that began with the acquisition of Universal Transport in 2022. The company, active in global specialised transport since 1911, retains its locations, contacts, and operational processes unchanged.
Investments in aviation security and technology continue to grow
The "Air Transport IT Insights 2024" report by SITA highlights how airlines and airports are increasing investments in cybersecurity, biometrics, and sustainable IT solutions. Seventy-four percent of carriers and 72% of airports plan to boost IT spending over the next two years. Cybersecurity is a priority for 66% of airlines and 73% of airports. In 2024, IT expenditure was estimated at 37 billion dollars for airlines and nearly 9 billion for airports, demonstrating the sector’s commitment to safer, smoother, and more sustainable travel.
