Global air cargo experiences strong growth
Air cargo is growing at a much faster pace compared to maritime transport, which appears to be increasingly congested. According to Drewry Airfreight Insight, a new market monitoring service launched by Drewry Supply Chain Advisors, 2024 has witnessed significant growth in air cargo, particularly from Asia, driven by bottlenecks in maritime transport due to the Red Sea crisis. Unreliable transit times and rising sea freight costs have prompted many shippers to opt for air transport, which has seen double-digit growth despite its high prices.
NewCold and Froneri establish cold chain logistics in Central-Southern Italy
On September 24, 2024, the first stone was laid for a major automated logistics platform in Central-Southern Italy, developed by NewCold and Froneri. The facility, located in Ferentino, Frosinone province, involves an investment exceeding €70 million and will create over 150 jobs. The project focuses on technological innovation and environmental sustainability. The warehouse will be built near Froneri’s plant in Ferentino, which produces packaged ice cream. One of the key innovations of the project will be a tunnel connecting the platform to the Froneri plant, reducing environmental impact and cutting transport emissions. The hub, set to be fully operational by 2026, will be a cornerstone of NewCold's logistics strategy for Central-Southern Italy. The facility will feature cutting-edge technologies, including automation systems for loading, unloading, and pallet picking.
