On 30 January 2025, CargoBeamer confirmed the launch of its intermodal semi-trailer train service between its Italian terminal in Domodossola and the German terminal in Kornwestheim, near Stuttgart. The new service will run from 11 February 2025 three round trips per week, with departures from Germany on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and return journeys from Italy on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The Stuttgart connection marks the company's second route between the two countries, alongside the Kaldenkirchen-Domodossola link, which, according to CargoBeamer, already handles thousands of semi-trailers per month across the Alps.
Train traction will be provided by Ffs Cargo International, with operational management at the Duss terminal in Kornwestheim, Germany, and the CargoBeamer terminal in Domodossola, Italy. CargoBeamer’s rail terminals enable the loading of semi-trailers onto trains without the need for cranes, meaning that transport operators are not required to use semi-trailers specifically adapted for intermodal rail transport. The trains can accommodate all types of semi-trailers, containers, swap bodies, and specialised semi-trailers, including tankers and refrigerated units.
