The table of spot freight rates for container shipping, published on February 29 by Drewry, alternates between green and red arrows. However, the downward trend continues for the two European ports monitored: the decline between Shanghai and Genoa persists, dropping below $5,000 (-6% to $4,757 per 40-foot container) and between Shanghai and Rotterdam, which decreases by 7% to $3,944. Rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles (-4% to $4,486) and to New York (-3% to $5,820) also remain in the red. On the flip side, spot rates from Rotterdam to Shanghai rebound (+1% to $915) as do transatlantic rates: New York to Rotterdam climbs by 2% to $633, and on the reverse route, there is a 1% increase to $2,220. The rate from Los Angeles to Shanghai also rises by 2% to $719. In the coming weeks, Drewry anticipates a slight decline in outbound rates from China.
