Following stabilization in the second half of July 2024, container shipping rates between China and Europe showed a decline in the first week of August. According to the Drewry World Container Index, the average spot rate between Shanghai and Genoa dropped by 4% to $7,309 per FEU, while the rate between Shanghai and Rotterdam fell by 3% to $7,929 per FEU. Conversely, the rate between Rotterdam and Shanghai saw a positive trend, increasing by 1% to $630 per FEU.
Transatlantic rates remained stable: the rate between Rotterdam and New York increased by 1% to $1,967 per FEU, while the reverse route saw a slight decrease of $2, bringing the average rate to $766 per FEU.
A similar trend was observed between China and the United States: the average spot rate between Shanghai and Los Angeles decreased by 4% to $6,501 per FEU, and the rate between Shanghai and New York fell by 3% to $8,931 per FEU. The rate between Los Angeles and Shanghai remained unchanged at $707 per FEU. The global index, which includes all routes, dropped by 3% to $5,551 per FEU.
