The contract for the paving of quays 19, 20, and 21 in the Marche dock of the Port of Ancona was officially awarded on July 24, 2024. This strategic area of the port required modernization to meet current operational needs. The works will cover a total quay front of 350 meters, spanning an area of approximately 15,500 square meters. The contract is valued at €2,836,855, with a completion time estimated at 329 days.
The project includes two main types of intervention. The first involves the new carriageable paving of the quays, necessary to comply with current operational standards and ensure efficient traffic for port vehicles, as well as to optimize loading, unloading, and cargo handling activities. The second type of intervention concerns the installation of systems for proper stormwater drainage, a crucial aspect for maintaining the operational safety of the area.
Additionally, the project includes the preparation of sub-services for the electrification of the mooring quays, in line with both community and national energy sustainability objectives. This modernization not only represents a qualitative improvement for the moorings of the Port of Ancona but is also preparatory for shifting part of the ferry traffic from the historic port berths.
"A new step in the renewal process of the Port of Ancona, a path of improvement to increase the competitiveness of the infrastructure," said Vincenzo Garofalo, president of the Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority. "With this intervention, we reclaim essential spaces for the port's operations and the development of additional maritime traffic. Moreover, we prepare an area where we can relocate part of the ferry berths, moving them away from the historic center to reduce the impact of these activities and improve the coexistence between the city of Ancona and its port."
