Following its incorporation of the Distribution and Logistics division of Italy's Fercam, Dachser continues to enhance its European operations through strategic acquisitions, now with the Brummer Group, a firm specialized in food logistics. This development was announced on April 9, 2024, clarifying that the transaction encompasses the entire Group, which includes Brummer Logistik of Germany and Brummer Logistic Solutions of Austria. The companies did not disclose the details and the amount of the transaction.
The two companies acquired by Dachser generated a turnover of approximately 128 million euros in 2023, positioning them among the top food logistics providers in Central Europe. Hans Brummer and Simone Brummer-Leebmann, the owners and CEOs of the Brummer Group, decided to focus their business activities on real estate management and development, particularly in the logistics sector, with the support of their daughter Valerie Brummer.
Founded in 1977 in Neuburg am Inn, Bavaria, Brummer Logistik operates a 40,000 square meter facility dedicated to refrigerated and frozen foods. Brummer Logistic Solutions, started in 2021, boasts 45,000 square meters of storage space in St. Marienkirchen, Austria, where it consolidates goods flows from across Europe. The Brummer Group was also a co-founder, along with Dachser, of the European Food Network, which has been serving the food logistics market across 34 European countries since 2013. Currently, the Brummer Group employs around 950 people in its key markets of southern Germany and Austria.
With this transaction, Dachser's clients will gain access to the Brummer distribution network in southern Germany, Austria, and Slovenia, serviced by over 350 drivers and a fleet of more than 300 refrigerated trucks. "This acquisition, along with recent acquisitions of Müller Fresh Food Logistics in the Netherlands and Frigoscandia in Northern Europe, further strengthens Dachser's position as one of the leading providers of food logistics in Europe," explains Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser.
The Brummer Group annually handles more than 715,000 cross-border shipments across all temperature ranges. "With their proximity to the border, both Brummer locations are ideally situated for optimal load consolidation and further drive time optimizations," adds Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics and Managing Director of Dachser Food Logistics.
Following the completion of the purchase, Brummer will be fully integrated into the Dachser Food Logistics network. Its operational activities will continue to be managed by Max Reih and his team. Currently the Chief Operating Officer of Brummer, Reih will report directly to Alexander Tonn and Stefan Behrendt, Deputy Managing Director of Dachser Food Logistics.
