On March 26, 2024, DB Schenker announced the launch of the Onboard Courier Service, aimed at meeting the increasing demand for express transportation solutions for small and high-value shipments, ensuring short delivery times and high security. Following a trial period, the German company has established a dedicated team for this service, now operational across three continents, 24/7.
Customers of the Onboard Courier Service can receive a quote within minutes at any time. An operator is dispatched at short notice to personally carry the goods as a passenger on a commercial flight, thus reducing the risk of loss or damage and ensuring the shortest possible transit time. The service includes insurance coverage and customs clearance, if necessary.
Although available for all types of shipments, excluding dangerous goods, demand for the Onboard Courier Service primarily comes from major companies in the automotive, electronics, high-end fashion, and healthcare sectors. Maximum transparency is ensured through real-time tracking, inspired by the visibility of e-commerce deliveries.
"With our OBC service, we are taking air transport to a new level," explains Thorsten Meincke, Global Board Member for Air and Ocean Freight at DB Schenker. "Whether it's shipping spare parts for cars from Germany to China to prevent production stoppages, or medical devices from Canada urgently needed in a hospital in South Africa, we are now capable of handling the most urgent and unforeseen needs of our customers."
