The European Commission has formalized the appointment of new coordinators for seven of the nine transport corridors within the Trans-European Transport Network (Ten-T). These new officials, who have been given a renewable four-year mandate, will oversee the strategic priorities for each corridor. Their areas of responsibility include the modernization of railway and road infrastructure, the enhancement of maritime transport, and the development of advanced technological solutions for traffic management. Additionally, two specific coordinators have been appointed for horizontal priorities: Matthias Ruete for the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and Gesine Meissner for the European Maritime Space (EMS).
Of particular relevance to Italy is the appointment of four European coordinators responsible for corridors crossing the Italian territory. These are: Pawel Wojciechowski, in charge of the Rhine-Alpine corridor; Anne Elisabet Jensen for the Baltic-Adriatic corridor; Pat Cox for the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor; and Mathieu Grosch for the Mediterranean corridor. The other three coordinators are Carlo Secchi for the Atlantic corridor, Catherine Trautmann for the North Sea-Baltic corridor, and Marian-Jean Marinescu for the Orient-East Mediterranean corridor. As for the next appointments, the European Commission has announced that the coordinators for the Baltic Sea-Black Sea-Aegean Sea corridor and the Rhine-Danube corridor will be named in early 2025.
