In February 2025, a high-profile logistics operation facilitated the transport of oversized industrial components from Italy to Algeria, highlighting the significance of highly specialised transport solutions. The mission, entrusted to Rhenus by the chemical company Alder, involved the exceptional transport of structures intended for formaldehyde production, reaffirming the crucial role of logistics in the management of large-scale industrial plants. The operation handled four iron column sections, with a total weight of 32.30 tonnes and a volume of 559.30 cubic metres.
The journey commenced in San Giorgio di Nogaro, with an initial road leg leading to Porto Nogaro, from where the cargo was loaded onto a dedicated vessel bound for Mostaganem, Algeria. Rhenus emphasises that the success of such a complex operation hinges on meticulous planning. Every phase of the transport required specific measures to ensure both safety and efficiency. The process involved precise balancing of the oversized components and securing them in compliance with safety regulations, alongside an accurate assessment of delivery timelines to ensure deadlines were met.
A key element of the shipment was a 90-metre-long and 14-metre-wide vessel, chartered on a sub-inducement basis, meaning the voyage was only undertaken if a sufficient volume of cargo was available. This approach ensured maximum flexibility and reliability, aligning with Alder’s requirements for delivery times and cargo security. “This operation demonstrates how specialised logistics can tackle complex challenges,” commented Simone Riccobono, Managing Director of Rhenus Air & Ocean Division in Italy. “Ensuring a safe and punctual delivery was essential for our client, and we are proud of the teamwork that made this achievement possible.”
