On 24 March 2025, Volvo Trucks Italia announced the delivery of three electric industrial vehicles to the haulage company Four Sustainable Logistics. With these additions, the company’s electric fleet now totals forty lorries. The new vehicles include two Volvo FHE 4x2 tractors with Globetrotter cabs and a FEE 6x2 rigid truck, designed to meet a range of operational needs, from long-distance regional transport to refrigerated urban deliveries.
The tractors are equipped with a fully electric driveline and “cubic” batteries offering 540 kWh of capacity, rechargeable with both alternating current (up to 43 kW) and direct current (up to 250 kW). The FEE 6x2 rigid truck features four battery packs with a combined capacity of approximately 264 kWh and is fitted with a Lamberet insulated body and a Carrier Syberia refrigeration unit, making it suitable for city deliveries of perishable goods. Four is also the first customer in Italy to trial Volvo’s Bundle service package, which includes a 43 kW Elinta Charge AC charging station and a monitoring, support and reporting platform developed by Fleet220.
The initiative is part of a broader strategic collaboration between Volvo Trucks and Four Sustainable Logistics, also supported by Volvo Group’s Rbs (Rental Business Solution) division, which specialises in long-term rental of industrial vehicles. “Our vision for the evolution of heavy transport has always been consistent, and the strength still lies in bringing together different but complementary areas of expertise,” said Sabrina Loner, eMob|Product|Homologation Director at Volvo Trucks Italia.
This vision is echoed by Francesco Carrozzini, head of development at Four Sustainable Logistics, who stated, “Our commitment is to design services alongside our clients that are also economically sustainable: a goal made possible by a shared medium- and long-term vision, which includes increasing vehicle charging range, training highly skilled drivers, using software to optimise routes, and expanding charging infrastructure.” Four has already scheduled the purchase of five more electric lorries by the end of 2025, in collaboration with strategic clients.
The partnership between Volvo Trucks and Four also extends to non-profit activities, such as their joint involvement in the association Sos LOGistica. Active for the past twenty years, this organisation supports businesses and operators in adopting sustainable logistics practices, turning sustainability into a true competitive advantage.
Four Sustainable Logistics was established through the collaboration of four Italian transport entrepreneurs – Lacchi, Rutilli, Niinivirta and FC Consulting – who recognised the need to anticipate market trends towards sustainability. The Four project was officially presented at the Green Logistics Expo in Padua in March 2018, marking the formal launch of the company’s activities. In addition to transport, the firm offers integrated logistics services.
