On July 16, it was announced that FS Group won six projects amounting to €491 million in the third call of the Connecting Europe Facility - Transport (CEF-T) Program for the 2021-27 period. This achievement represents 90% of the funds allocated to Italy by the EU, marking an increase of €100 million compared to the previous call in 2022. The current CEF-T programming primarily focuses on the completion of cross-border sections, modernization of transport networks, technological upgrades of rolling stock, and the development of connected multimodal passenger hubs.
The EU grants, which cover on average half of the total costs of the approved projects, were awarded to various FS Group companies. These include RFI for the construction of the cross-border access section to the Brenner Tunnel between Fortezza and Ponte Gardena and for the design of multimodal connections in the Genoa and Bologna nodes; Trenitalia and Trenitalia Tper for equipping high-speed and regional transport vehicles with ERTMS; TELT, receiving the majority of the funds, for further phases of the new Turin-Lyon line and the Moncenisio base tunnel; FS Sistemi Urbani for the design aimed at urban regeneration of the complex intermodal hub of Naples Centrale/Garibaldi; and Anas for the use and dissemination of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) tools along the road infrastructure.
