On 20 March 2025, Psa announced that its Genoese terminals, Psa Sech and Psa Genova Pra’, have received Iso 37001 certification from the independent organisation Sgs. According to a company statement, the certification "places the company at the forefront of corruption prevention, marking a significant turning point in the ethical management of port operations." Roberto Ferrari, CEO of Psa Italy, explained that "in a crucial industry like port management, where transparency and integrity are paramount, Psa Italy's terminals in Genoa have taken a significant step forward, becoming a model of best practice on a national level. By adopting the Iso 37001 certification, Psa Italy has demonstrated a concrete commitment to corruption prevention, raising its operational standards and establishing itself as a benchmark for the entire sector."
Specifically, Psa Genova Pra’ received certification on 3 January 2025, valid for three years, confirming its competence in terminal operations, including containerised and non-containerised cargo handling. Similarly, Psa Sech-Terminal Contenitori Porto di Genova, certified since 2018, successfully achieved recertification until 10 October 2027, further consolidating its position in anti-corruption practices. The company also added that the Venetian terminal, Psa Venice-Vecon, will soon obtain certification as well.
Psa emphasises that the steps undertaken by Psa Italy fully reflect the values outlined in "The Code," an ethical framework adopted internationally by the Psa International Group, guiding the daily operational decisions of all company employees. The code is continuously updated to ensure alignment with core principles of operational excellence, customer focus, and employee wellbeing, encouraging maximum integrity even in activities away from the public eye.
The Iso 37001 standard is the first international standard specifically dedicated to anti-bribery management systems, designed to prevent, detect, and combat corruption within public and private organisations. One of its key characteristics is flexibility; it can be implemented by organisations of any size and across all sectors, regardless of geographic location. In transport and logistics, a field marked by complex supply chains and extensive transaction volumes, this certification represents a significant added value.
The path to certification involves four essential stages. It begins with a thorough assessment of corruption risks within the organisation, followed by the development of a targeted action plan and the implementation of the anti-bribery management system. Subsequently, an independent certification audit verifies compliance with Iso 37001 standards. Once obtained, the certification is maintained through regular surveillance audits and must be renewed every three years.
