Giampaolo Botta, General Director of Spediporto, has been appointed as the representative of Fedespedi in Fiata's Working Group Sea, the world’s leading freight forwarding organisation. The appointment, made by Fedespedi President Alessandro Pitto on the recommendation of Mario Enrico Disegni, President of Fedespedi's Maritime & Ports Advisory Body, is a prestigious recognition for Botta, who previously served in the group from 2015 to 2021.
To provide a sense of its scale, Fiata brings together 113 national associations with over 6,000 individual members and about 40,000 companies in the shipping and logistics sector. The Working Group Sea, to which Botta has now returned, specifically focuses on maritime transport and is a key component of the Multimodal Transport Institute (MTI). The MTI monitors legislative developments and assesses their impact on freight forwarders' operations. Additionally, the MTI represents the sector in international organisations and plays a role in formulating development policies.
Botta's first commitment in his new role will take place on 28th and 29th November in London, during the Fiata Working Group Sea meeting. Expressing his satisfaction with the appointment, Botta said: "I am honoured by the renewed trust from Fedespedi. In recent years, Fiata's Working Group Sea has become a vital reference point for international freight forwarders. I will do my utmost to represent Fedespedi, Spediporto, and Italy on this prestigious board."
The Fiata Working Group Sea meets three times a year and plays a crucial role in ensuring that forwarders are informed and prepared for regulatory changes and new challenges within the sector. Botta's appointment underscores the prominent role that Fedespedi and Spediporto are playing on the international stage of logistics and freight forwarding.
