The initial episodes of the new podcast "Decoding Decarbonization," launched by the Lithuanian giant Girteka, are now available online. Through discussions with industry experts, the podcast aims to clarify doubts about the future of sustainable transportation. The information campaign aims to present the possibilities, advantages, and methods for decarbonizing supply chains, delving into topics such as the technological evolution of vehicles and propulsion systems, the potential of intermodal transportation, and the characteristics of alternative fuels, primarily HVO based on vegetable oils.
Hosted by Aliya Khutova, a communications and marketing specialist at Girteka, the episodes feature interviews with distinguished guests, industry experts, representatives of non-governmental organizations, public bodies, and institutions. Girteka aims to create a platform for exchanging experiences, ideas, and knowledge among companies, institutions, transporters, and all interested parties seeking not only ways to become more sustainable but also additional tips and expertise.
“Our podcast aims to demystify sustainability in transportation by breaking down its complexity into engaging and accessible conversations,” reads the official Girteka website. “We invite our listeners to explore these topics together and encourage them to engage in dialogue about the future of our industry. It is important to understand the complexity of sustainable development while finding common ground for its implementation.”
All episodes will be available for free on Girteka’s social media channels, including LinkedIn, Facebook, X, the company newsletter, and YouTube. By mid-July 2024, four video contents have been released, starting with an introductory video by Viktorija Terekė, Girteka’s Sustainability Manager, addressing the legal framework shaping today’s feasible sustainable transport solutions. Following an overview of the current legislative system, the first episode outlines the tools companies have to successfully tackle decarbonization, provides an overview of all cutting-edge solutions, and analyzes the potential development that green transport should aim for in the coming years.
In the second episode, Andrius Zukauskas, Head of E-Mobility at Girteka, explains the world of battery-electric trucks, highlighting that the key to decarbonizing the transport sector lies in electric propulsion, defined as the only true sustainable alternative to diesel trucks. Exploring the current state of BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) technology, Zukauskas analyzes the benefits companies could enjoy by adopting this technology, while also highlighting the costs related to the transition and the different approach required in trip planning.
The third episode features Alexander Kornblum, Managing Director Sales and Business Development at Germany's CargoBeamer. This time, the focus is on integrated intermodal solutions which, according to CB, can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of freight transport, improving the environmental impact of logistics operations. Kornblum also explains how green transport and sustainable shipping practices are rapidly transforming the entire sector, making it more efficient and environmentally responsible, and how the choice to decarbonize logistics is a market evolution that companies must follow to stay competitive.
Upcoming episodes will feature guests representing Volvo Trucks, TTLA (International Transport and Logistics Alliance, the association that unites the interests of all Lithuanian operators), and other Girteka group representatives, who will present the challenges related to the development of infrastructure, fast-charging systems, and refueling stations. At the end of each episode, Girteka invites all listeners to actively participate in the debate, reminding that the initiative is not just a one-way conversation but an opportunity for growth and discussion.
