The Grimaldi Group continues to innovate and strengthen its fleet with the acquisition of the Great Casablanca, delivered on August 28, 2024, at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea. This new multipurpose ro-ro ship is the fifth of six units in the G5 class and will be used to bolster services between Northern Europe and West Africa starting in October 2024.
The Great Casablanca stands out for its size and cargo capacity. Measuring 250 meters in length, 38 meters in width, and with a gross tonnage of 45,684, the ship is designed to meet the specific needs of the Grimaldi Group. Its innovative and fully customized internal configuration allows for the transport of up to 4,700 linear meters of rolling cargo, 2,500 cars (Ceu), and 2,000 containers (Teu). Compared to the previous G4 class, the Great Casablanca maintains the same capacity for rolling cargo but doubles the container capacity, making it an optimal solution for integrated transport.
Another crucial feature of the Great Casablanca is the adoption of cutting-edge technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. These innovations allow for a reduction in CO2 emissions by up to 43% per ton transported compared to other multipurpose con-ro vessels in the Grimaldi fleet. This marks a significant step towards sustainability in the maritime transport sector. Gian Luca Grimaldi, president of the Grimaldi Group, expressed satisfaction with the arrival of the Great Casablanca, calling it a "technological gem" that helps keep the Group's fleet young: "Thanks to our investments, we are able to offer our clients regular services with high transport capacity while fully respecting the environment," Grimaldi emphasized.
