Hannibal Rail Company (Contship Group) announces that starting from February 5, 2024, the daily departures of the intermodal train connecting the Rail Hub Milan at Melzo and the Botlek terminal at the Port of Rotterdam will increase from three to five, bringing the weekly rotations to fifteen. From Botlek, the cargo units can continue on Cldn's ro-ro ships to ports in Great Britain. With this enhancement, the Melzo-Rotterdam line will become Hannibal's most densely operated route.
The trains are capable of carrying P400 semi-trailers (liftable and non-liftable) and 40 and 45-foot containers. Rail traction is provided by Sbb Cargo International, thus strengthening the partnership with the Swiss company. Marzia Cicchetti, Global Account Manager of Contship Group, states, 'For every unit transported on this route, we reduce the CO2 footprint by an average of 50%.'
'We are actively committed to enhancing services along this vital corridor,' says Andrea Spagnuolo, Business Development Manager at Hannibal. 'Increasing the rail rotations on the Melzo-Rotterdam Botlek Cldn line represents a significant step in optimizing transportation and ensuring flexibility and loading capacity to our clients through a daily service’.
