MAN Truck & Bus has chosen the IAA 2024 as the platform to introduce the eTGL, a 12-ton electric truck that marks the final piece in its electric industrial vehicle lineup. Designed to meet urban transportation needs, the eTGL offers a range of 235 kilometers and features fast-charging capabilities. The MAN eTGL provides a payload capacity of up to 6.6 tons and is powered by two specially developed battery packs with a total capacity of 160 kWh. These batteries, mounted on the sides of the chassis, support fast charging via CCS connections of up to 250 kW, allowing drivers to recharge 70% of the battery in about thirty minutes—perfect for short operational breaks.
The electric motor, combined with a two-speed transmission, delivers 285 horsepower (210 kW) and transmits power to the rear axle through a driveshaft. The truck has a wheelbase of 4,500 mm, ensuring good maneuverability in urban environments. Additionally, the body length can be customized from 6,200 mm to 7,300 mm, depending on the transport requirements.
The short cab design offers easy access with a low step, ideal for frequent entries and exits during urban deliveries. The driver’s dashboard features a central 12.3-inch digital display that provides detailed information on the vehicle’s status, including battery charge, range, and energy consumption.
With the launch of the new eTGL, MAN now offers a full range of electric trucks from 12 to 42 tons. This model joins the existing eTGS and eTGX trucks. MAN Truck & Bus CEO, Alexander Vlaskamp, stated: “With the new eTGL, MAN becomes a true comprehensive provider in the field of electromobility. From night-time urban deliveries to heavy long-distance transportation, we offer zero-emission solutions for all transportation needs. Our customers have already responded positively to our offering, as shown by the 2,000 orders received for our other electric models.”
In addition to the vehicle, MAN provides a complete package of services to support the transition to electric mobility. This includes personalized consultations to analyze vehicle usage, necessary charging infrastructure, and service contracts. MAN has also partnered with charging station suppliers and offers tailored financing solutions for urban logistics needs. Among the digital services available are the MAN eReadyCheck system, which allows customers to verify whether routes can be managed exclusively in electric mode, and MAN SmartRoute for intelligent route planning.
