At the IAA 2024 in Hannover, Thermo King, alongside Aksa Würenlos, will present E-Coolpac, a battery-powered innovation aimed at revolutionizing refrigerated transport, especially in intermodal applications. This groundbreaking zero-emissions technology is designed to be compatible with various vehicle types, including hybrid, electric, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and diesel trucks and semi-trailers. E-Coolpac is also suitable for insulated semi-trailers and maritime containers.
The E-Coolpac range stands out for its modular design, offering battery options that range from 15 kWh to 105 kWh. This flexibility allows customization according to the specific requirements of the vehicle or container. The battery modules can be easily mounted on different types of vehicles and are compatible with Thermo King refrigeration units as well as certain Frigoblock solutions.
One of the most notable features of E-Coolpac is its expandable energy capacity. Starting with a base unit offering 35 kWh, users can add extension modules of 35 kWh or 70 kWh, reaching a total capacity of up to 105 kWh. This flexibility is a significant advantage for transport companies needing customized solutions to comply with increasingly strict emissions and noise regulations.
E-Coolpac batteries come as a comprehensive package, with power electronics, control systems, and battery modules integrated into a robust casing. Each model, ranging from 15 kWh to 35 kWh, can be combined with extension modules to increase overall power, providing a plug-and-play option that simplifies energy capacity expansion when needed. The extension modules contain only the cells and battery management system (BMS), leveraging the control systems of the base unit to maximize efficiency. For maritime containers, the E-Coolpac system is compatible with CFF and Magnum Plus units, as well as other ISO1496-2 refrigerated container solutions from different brands.
