The Polish company InPost, an international leader in out-of-home last-mile delivery services, continues its expansion in the Italian market with the opening of a new logistics hub in Lombardy and the implementation of new sustainability and route optimization strategies. The goal is to boost the efficiency of last-mile deliveries and successfully manage the peak Christmas season.
In this context, the company has announced the development of a 9,000-square-meter logistics hub in Pieve Emanuele, located in the province of Milan. The facility will feature twenty loading bays and ample office space. It is strategically positioned in a region that already hosts the highest concentration of InPost lockers in Italy, with approximately 1,500 pick-up points. Its location, close to major highways such as Milan's Western Ring Road, the A1, and the A7, will enable efficient handling of deliveries across Milan and other regions.
Looking ahead, InPost plans to further expand its network in Italy by increasing delivery capacity and enhancing integration with e-commerce operators. Its current fleet of 330 vehicles will be expanded with electric, hybrid, and biofuel-powered vehicles.
"In Italy, locker deliveries and out-of-home services are emerging as a promising solution to tackle urban logistics challenges," said Salvatore Russo, Southern Europe Head of Logistics at InPost. "The adoption of InPost lockers is growing by 50% compared to 2023, thanks to the convenience for customers and reduced environmental impact." The company also highlighted findings from the report "The Environmental Impact of E-commerce Deliveries," conducted by Netcomm with the B2C Logistics Center Research Group and the Polytechnic University of Milan, which confirmed that out-of-home deliveries contribute to a 38% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional deliveries.
