The Contship Italia Group is strengthening intermodal rail transport across Europe with this the new intermodal train between Milano and Moerdijk, developed by its subsidiary Hannibal in collaboration with A2B-online. Initially, the service will run three times a week, with plans to expand to four round trips per week by April 2025. Rail traction within Italian territory will be handled by Oceanogate.
The Moerdijk rail terminal serves as a vital hub for the European logistics network. Situated in a port equipped with over 40 kilometres of roads and 35 kilometres of railway tracks, it provides direct access to key European transport corridors and connections to the United Kingdom. Renovated in 2021 with support from the European Commission’s Cef-Transport fund, the terminal has become a benchmark for multimodal transport. Its strategic location lies at the intersection of three major Ten-T corridors: North Sea-Mediterranean, North Sea-Baltic, and Rhine-Alpine.
“This connection represents a significant step in strengthening trade relations between the Netherlands and Italy, perfectly aligning with our mission to optimise the supply chains of our customers,” stated Andrea Spagnuolo, Sales & Business Development Manager at Contship.
