The year 2024 kicks off with a significant move for Ambrogio Intermodal, as it signs a major order with the German manufacturer Kässbohrer to expand the road segment of their combined road-rail transport operations. The acquisition includes 650 units, ranging from lightweight container semi-trailers to swap bodies, all capable of transporting coils. Awes Botello, Terminal & Purchasing Manager at Ambrogio Intermodal, states, “Our choice to opt for Kässbohrer's products, especially the coil-transporting swap body – the lightest on the market – and the lightweight container chassis, allows us to have a diverse and useful payload to maximize capacity, making each shipment more sustainable.”
The semi-trailers are the lighter gooseneck model K.SHG L, boasting a tare weight under 3,960 kilograms, thus enabling a greater payload compared to traditional models. This is particularly advantageous for 45-foot containers. This unit is constructed using S700MC steel, known for its strength and long-lasting durability.
The swap bodies are of the SWAU.CC and K.SWAU CL models. The former features a coil well with a payload capacity of 4,500 kilograms. Its floor is capable of supporting forklifts up to 7.2 tons per axle. The latter is reduced to a tare weight of 3,900 kilograms and has a plywood floor, supporting a forklift axle capacity of 7.2 tons. Its frame is coated in Ktl, with partial metalizing at load points and complete coverage on crane pocket areas.
