According to Reuters, the Italian Guardia di Finanza conducted searches on December 17, 2024, at the offices of Amazon, SDA, and GLS as part of an investigation initiated by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Turin. The probe is focused on tax evasion and the improper use of labour. Reuters reports that the Guardia di Finanza carried out searches at the premises of SDA and GLS, looking for false invoices in connection with the ongoing investigation into tax evasion and labour violations linked to Amazon Italia Transport and Amazon City Logistica. The agency, which reportedly viewed the search warrants, reached out to the three companies involved, but none provided comment on the matter. This operation forms part of an investigation led by the Turin Prosecutor’s Office targeting Amazon's transport and logistics divisions, as well as the two courier services.
The same Reuters report indicates that the investigation involves an alleged tax evasion scheme by Amazon, amounting to €10 million between 2019 and 2022, facilitated by the use of “fake supply contracts.” Similarly, SDA is under investigation for VAT evasion totalling €23 million from 2019 to 2023, while GLS faces charges over €10 million in evasion between 2020 and 2023. In July 2024, the Guardia di Finanza seized €121 million from Amazon Italia Transport as part of a tax evasion investigation initiated by the Milan Prosecutor's Office.
