Civitavecchia Port is set to receive a significant financial boost with the allocation of €35 million aimed at purchasing the area known as the "Civitavecchia-Port Fiumaretta Tourist Convergence Hub" and constructing a new road to improve access to the port. This initiative is part of a broader infrastructure development project designed to strengthen the connection between the port and its surrounding area, thereby enhancing tourist flow and boosting local economic activities.
The funding, formalized by a decree from the Directorate-General for Ports, Logistics, and Intermodality of the Ministry of Transport, marks a crucial step in the implementation of the projects outlined in an agreement signed in January 2023. The agreement was endorsed by the Municipality of Civitavecchia, the Port Authority of the Northern Central Tyrrhenian Sea, and the Ministry of Transport.
Among the planned interventions, one of the most significant involves the acquisition and redevelopment of the former Italcementi cement plant area. This site, to be integrated into the new tourist convergence hub, will play a key role in enhancing the port infrastructure and optimizing local logistics. Moreover, the construction of a new access road to the port will help improve traffic flow, reduce transit times, and facilitate the movement of goods and people.
In July 2024, the Tar confirmed the outcome of the tender for the final design and execution of the dock electrification works at the port. This project, with a total base bid amount of approximately €69 million, was awarded to a temporary consortium formed by Installazioni Impianti, Fincantieri SI, Port Utilities, and Nidec Asi. The bid had been contested by another temporary consortium composed of So.I.Ge.A. Srl and Air Fire Spa, which raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the procurement process.
