During a routine roadside inspection in San Pietro in Casale, in the province of Bologna, officers from the Reno Galliera Local Police stopped a Polish articulated lorry. Upon examining the vehicle, they discovered that counterfeit licence plates had been attached over the original ones using plastic ties. These falsified plates were designed to deceive superficial checks or camera inspections, allowing the alphanumeric combinations to be altered. The Local Police explained that the fake plates were accurate reproductions of those belonging to vehicles legally registered in Poland and currently in circulation. This made the scheme particularly difficult to detect in less thorough inspections. Following the discovery, the lorry driver was charged with the use of forged documents and is now facing legal proceedings. The three counterfeit plates, along with the entire lorry used to commit the offence, have been confiscated.
