Krone customers in Southwestern Germany now have access to an innovative and sustainable logistics option for receiving new semi-trailers: beginning in early 2024, the distribution of Krone vehicles will occur via combined rail-road transport, an initiative promising substantial reductions in the environmental footprint of logistics operations. A full train departs from mid-January one or two times a week, linking Werlte to Wörth, home of Daimler Trucks. This method allows for the transportation of up to 32 semi-trailers, significantly lowering CO2 emissions. In the reverse direction, the train loads Daimler Trucks vehicles for delivery to customers in Northern Germany and Scandinavia.
The driving force behind this sustainable innovation is the construction of a new loading facility in Werlte, accomplished by Emsländische Eisenbahn GmbH, and the introduction of low-loader wagons supplied by Vega International Car Transport, an Austrian company specializing in the transport of commercial vehicles across Europe. These wagons, with their innovative design and the "r2L Connector" system, can load vehicles up to four meters high, including semi-trailers that traditionally cannot be lifted by cranes.
