On 14 April 2025, Medlog, the rail operator owned by Msc, announced the launch of a weekly train service for refrigerated containers connecting the port of Gioia Tauro to the Verona freight terminal, with the possibility of onward connections to other European destinations. The service is primarily designed for perishable foodstuffs and connects the two Italian facilities in 24 hours. From the Calabrian port, Medlog also operates container trains to the inland terminals of Nola – with daily departures and onward links to Milan, Bologna and Verona – and Bologna, using the fast corridor procedure with customs clearance carried out at the Emilia-based terminal. The Gioia Tauro rail hub is also connected to Padua and Bari. In 2022, Msc signed a memorandum of understanding with the FS Group to promote sea-rail intermodality.
Internationally, Medlog began construction in January 2025 of a rail terminal in Nymburk, located in the central Bohemia region. The project, the result of three years of planning, will cover an area of 7.5 hectares and is expected to become operational by mid-2026. In France, the company is currently building the Medlog Inland Terminal Paris-Bruyères, a multimodal platform in the Paris metropolitan area.
