On 12 February 2025, Msc announced operational improvements to two of its main transatlantic services within its independent East/West network, aiming to make routes between Europe and the United States even faster and more efficient. One of the most significant changes concerns the Medusec service, which will now connect the port of Genoa to New York in just nine days. A reduction in transit times of this scale represents a competitive advantage for companies engaged in import-export trade between the two continents.
The impact of these changes extends beyond major ports, also benefiting the island regions of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Sardinia and Sicily will enjoy greater commercial connectivity thanks to Msc’s feeder services, which will ensure quicker and more direct access to US markets. Additionally, inland areas of Italy will be able to fully leverage the company’s intermodal network, expanding opportunities for international freight transport. The improvement of the Medusec service has been made possible by a revision of its routes, which involved the removal of calls at Barcelona and Sines. This decision not only speeds up transit times but also enables better integration with the Emusa service, which will now include Barcelona, while Sines will continue to be served through the same Emusa service, maintaining its link to the US East Coast. Msc’s East/West network comprises eleven transatlantic services between Europe and the United States.
