On March 20, 2024, Msc presented its project to the Ministry of Enterprises for the production of rail cars at the former Wartsila facility in Trieste, as part of the ministerial discussion on the Wartsila crisis. At the now-defunct Bagnoli della Rosandra plant, the Swiss giant plans to build a thousand wagons a year, with the program starting full production within thirty-six months. This includes taking on all 300 Trieste workers from Wartsila and hiring additional staff in the future. Msc intends to invest 250 million euros in this production. Deputy Minister for Crisis, Fausta Bergamotto, stated that she aims to conclude the program agreement by June. The next Wartsila Table meeting is scheduled for March 27.
